Socialist programs working in U.S.

This is in response to the June 30 letter by Mr. Steve Howard in which he states that “socialist policies have failed in every nation on earth.” This must be news to the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) all of which have socialist economies (and are democracies) and, by many measurements, are better off than we are. Further, we have in the United States many socialist programs such as public libraries, subsidies to the oil and agriculture industries, Social Security and Medicare. I am interested to know which of those policies Mr. Howard would prefer to eliminate.
