Durbin says he has been working for years to include the country in the program. The Illinois Democrat says a provision to do so is part of comprehensive immigration legislation that's scheduled to go before the U.S. Senate next week.

The Chicago area has one of the largest Polish populations outside of Poland. Durbin says the city's large Polish-American community would make Chicago a popular destination for visitors.
