Cougars sweep pair from Snappers

The Kane County Cougars swept the Beloit Snappers in a pair of seven-inning contests by scores of 4-3 and 7-4 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva on Saturday.

In the opener, Albert Almora doubled, reached on an error and scored, and drove home a pair of runs with another double that tied the game for the Cougars (23-24). In the seventh, Almora singled, took third on Dan Vogelbach’s double and scored the winning run on Bijan Rdemacher’s sacrifice fly.

Jose Rosario started for the Cougars and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits over 413 innings. Winning pitcher Nathan Dorris (2-2) worked the rest of the game and shut out Beloit (28-21) on 2 hits.

In Game 2, Vogelbach doubled home Almora and Oliver Zapata had a 2-run double. Rock Shoulders hit a solo homer and a 2-run blast.

Brian Smith pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs in the top of the third. Winner Ian Dickson (2-2) relieved Smith and pitched 3 scoreless innings while allowing 1 hit.

The Cougars and Snappers play Game 3 of their four-game series today at 6:30 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Tayler Scott (2-1) will start for the Cougars against righty Raul Alcantara (5-1).
