Mannheim Road work begins

The Illinois Department of Transportation has started a nearly $60 million roadwork project to widen and rebuild Mannheim Road from north of Irving Park Road to north of Higgins Road, about 3.2 miles. Mannheim will be widened from two lanes to three lanes in each direction and southbound Mannheim Road will get a ramp to Balmoral Avenue. Occasionally, lanes will close temporarily. Ramp closures at the Mannheim Road/I-190 interchange will come later. The project is expected to be completed in late summer 2014. Drivers are urged to allow extra time, pay close attention to signs in work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
