Tornado, severe thunderstorm watches in effect

As a line of tornadoes and strong storms moves through the lower Midwest on Sunday evening, the Chicago suburbs may also face severe weather overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for several Illinois counties including DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and McHenry until 3 a.m.

There is also a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will and Cook counties until 11 p.m.

The advisory predicted quarter size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

“Remain alert for possible tornado,” the alert reads. “Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room of a sturdy structure.”
