Cougars sweep Hot Rods

The Kane County Cougars endured a long but rewarding day, sweeping a doubleheader from the Bowling Green Hot Rods by scores of 4-2 in 11 innings and 3-1 on Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Rock Shoulders blasted a 2-run homer to win Game 1.

Tayler Scott started for the Cougars (12-13) and allowed 1 hit through the first 5 innings.

Stephen Perakslis and Matt Iannazzo (1-1) shut down the Hot Rods (18-9) the rest of the way, combining for 5 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball. In the nightcap, Cougars starter Ian Dickson worked 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 unearned run.

Shoulders had an RBI double that scored Jeimer Candelario with the tying run. In the fifth, Marco Hernandez scored on an error and Bijan Rademacher added an RBI single in the sixth to finish the scoring. Brian Smith (1-1) recorded the final seven outs to notch the win.
