'Silver Linings Playbook' out on DVD

“Silver Linings Playbook”

One of the best films of the year, the inspirational “Silver Linings Playbook” was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Bradley Cooper stars as Pat, a substitute teacher with bipolar disorder whose life has gone astray. After a long stay in a psychiatric facility, where he was sent after beating up his estranged wife's lover, Pat moves back home with his eccentric parents (Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver).

Then Pat meets Tiffany (Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence), a young widow with issues of her own. These two lost souls are drawn together as they practice for a dance competition, although Pat continues to cling to the hope of reconciling with his wife. Their verbal exchanges are terrific.

The writing, directing and ensemble cast help make this film one you will remember for a long time.

“Not Fade Away”

Writer/director David Chase, who created “The Sopranos,” makes his feature film debut with this tale of growing up in New Jersey during the early 1960s.

Douglas (John Magaro) is a drummer in a band that loves the Rolling Stones. He wants to impress Grace (Bella Heathcote) with his music, and his popular band is fronted by his friend Eugene (Jack Huston). When Eugene has a problem, Douglas takes over as lead singer.
