Local Rotary Club Changes Name and Meeting Location
The Rotary Club known from its creation almost 20 years ago as the Rotary Club of Long Grove has assumed a name describing its current membership and the area it serves. The Club is now the Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods.
"The name is longer and perhaps not as convenient," said Sara Knight, the current Club president, "but the name better reflects who we are. At times in our history, most members lived in Kildeer, and next year's president, Lyle Staab, lives in Hawthorn Woods." Knight lives in Kildeer. The two added community names were included in the originally chartered service area of the Club.
The Club now meets for breakfast most weeks at 7:15 AM at The Grove Country Club in Long Grove on Old 53. The Club will continue using www.RCLG.org as its web location, where current schedules and activities are recorded.
This Club sponsors the annual Heritage Run/Walk/Breakfast which benefits several participating partner charities. This year's event will be on Saturday, September 7. Information will be available at www.RotaryRace.org.
Rotary International, founded in Chicago in 1905, is the oldest organization of its type, with over 1.2 million members in 200 countries. Its motto is "Service Above Self."
