Injuries becoming an issue for White Sox

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said it’s still too early to worry about wins and losses.

Injuries are another thing.

“I don’t remember an April where we’ve had five guys on the DL, but that’s just part of the gig and that’s where we’re at right now,” Hahn said.

“Fortunately, nothing seems that long term. We expect all of these guys to be back in the coming weeks and months.”

Dayan Viciedo landed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, two days after taking a big swing at Toronto and straining his left oblique.

“It’s probably best to go on the DL to make sure I feel corrected before I get out there and it starts lingering for a long time,” Viciedo said through a translator. “I still feel it’s not that bad.”

Viciedo joins John Danks (shoulder), Gordon Beckham (fractured hamate bone), Angel Sanchez (back) and Leyson Septimo (shoulder) on the DL.

Tekotte gets call:After dealing with his own injury issue, outfielder Blake Tekotte came up from Class AAA Charlotte on Saturday to take Dayan Viciedo#146;s roster spot.It was an interesting decision, considering Tekotte had to stay back in extended spring training with a bad hamstring. The 25-year-old outfielder played just one game with Charlotte on Friday before joining the White Sox.#147;It feels pretty good,#148; Tekotte said of the hamstring. #147;They gave me a little extra time just to make sure since it was kind of the beginning of the season. They didn#146;t want me to relapse.#147;I feel great. I#146;m just excited to finally get out of Arizona and play under some lights in the stadium.#148;Tekotte, a left-handed hitter, was acquired in a November trade with San Diego. He played in 30 games with the Padres last year, batting .163 with 1 RBI.Cooper#146;s back:After missing the Sox#146; 10-game road trip with diverticulitis, pitching coach Don Cooper returned to the dugout Saturday.#147;What it amounted to for me was a bad, bad, bad stomach ache for five days,#148; Cooper said. #147;There are so many people that have it so much worse, every day waking up with pain. I#146;m not going to beef about it.#147;It#146;s not about if something is going to happen to you in your life. It#146;s about when, and you just deal with it and hopefully move on. I#146;m glad it wasn#146;t more than what it was.#148;No panic:Before the White Sox lost to the Twins in 10 innings Saturday, GM Rick Hahn said it#146;s way too early in the season to be worrying about a slow start.#147;Given all the injuries, it#146;s been fairly easy to tinker, scratch that itch so to speak,#148; Hahn said. #147;It certainly is a temptation to explore other options, but it#146;s way too soon to avert from the plan except when forced to due to injury.#147;We#146;d rather get up to at least a 6-8 week sample before you start drawing any sort of long-term conclusions, whether it be the guys who have gotten off to fantastic starts or the guys who have struggled early.#148;
