Southwest flight diverted to O’Hare after mechanical problem

A Southwest Airlines flight from Charlotte, N.C., was diverted to O’Hare International Airport instead of Midway late Saturday afternoon after a possible mechanical problem, according to an airport spokeswoman.

Southwest Flight 2187 experienced “some sort of mechanical issue” and landed at 5:53 p.m. Saturday at O’Hare, said Karen Pride, director of media relations for the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Chris Mainz of Southwest Airlines said the flight was diverted because of a faulty indication light, and it landed safely with no injuries.
