Chicago Police dispatch detectives to Boston

The Chicago Police Department is sending a team of detectives to Boston to help investigate this week’s bombings at the Boston Marathon.

On Friday, the police department in a press release said that five detectives and one sergeant would be flying to Boston at the request of the city’s police commissioner, Ed Davis.

Earlier in the week, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy offered the Boston Police Department whatever assistance it needed.

On Friday, the suspects killed an MIT police officer, wounded another lawman before one of them was killed during a chase and gun battle with police. Later in the day, the city and surrounding area were virtually locked down as thousands of police combed the streets in search of the second suspect, a 19-year-old college student.
