3 in central Indiana rescued after boat crashes in river

EATON, Ind. — A central Indiana man and two youths whose boat crashed into a tree in a rain-swollen river were rescued after spending an hour stranded on a log amid turbulent waters.

Delaware County’s water rescue team plucked the trio from the Mississinewa (mis-ih-SIHN’-uh-wah) River on Wednesday afternoon in Eaton, about 10 miles north of Muncie.

Fifteen-year-old Storm Fraze tells The Star Press that he, another juvenile and the man had just started traveling downstream in their small boat when it shifted sideways, crashed into a tree and began sinking. All three of them jumped onto a nearby log.

Indiana conservation officer Cpl. Josh Kilgore say the trio were lucky to have a sturdy log nearby to stand on while rescuers got their boats in the water.
