Suburban taxpayers who are waiting until the last minute to file their taxes Monday will have to drive to Chicago to find a post office open late. Police investigate ‘suspicious’ death in Crystal Lake fire
Crystal Lake police said an autopsy likely will be needed on Monday to determine what killed a man found over the weekend inside his burning home. The man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was located about 7:33 a.m. Sunday lying on the floor inside his residence in the 1700 block of Moorland Lane. Full story.

The election may be over, but interest in politics remains high — even if it’s the politics of 1858. A standing-room-only crowd gathered at the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum Sunday to see Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas — or rather, actors George Buss and Timothy Connors — talk about their lives and their roles in history. Full story.
Athletes with disabilities taste thrill of competition
Joan Camper said she’s noticed big changes in her 20-year-old son, Grant, since he started participating in competitive track events more than 10 years ago. “It gave him a huge boost in self-confidence,” said Camper, a Carol Stream resident. “It improved his social skills. But it also showed him how to accept losing, too. He’s become a better sport now. He likes cheering teammates on.” Grant was one of about 140 children and young adults with special needs who participated Sunday in the annual Western DuPage Special Recreation Association Track Meet held at North Central College in Naperville. City, Cubs push $500 million Wrigley renovation
The Cubs and the city of Chicago say they have completed a $500 million pact to overhaul Wrigley Field. The agreement announced Sunday night includes $300 million in stadium renovations that will feature a large new outfield video screen. It allows the Cubs to play more night games and expands parking with 1,000 remote spaces. Full story.
Bulls just looking to get healthy
A few weeks ago the Bulls and Miami played one of the most memorable regular-season games in NBA history. Sunday’s rematch wasn’t the same. In front of the home fans and on national television, Miami sent the Power Trio onto the floor and predictably knocked off the short-handed Bulls 105-93 at American Airlines Arena. Full story.
Blackhawks not fazed by Blues
You’d have thought the St. Louis Blues would have learned by now you can’t intimidate the Blackhawks. The Blues tried again Sunday at Scottrade Center, going after Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa physically early and engaging in scrum after scrum following whistles. The Hawks mostly turned the other cheek in a tidy 2-0 victory. Full story.
Cubs lose a wild one
The Cubs nearly survived themselves Sunday. Not quite, though. As poorly played as the 10-7, 10-inning loss to the Giants was, the Cubs were one strike away from a 7-6 victory in the ninth inning at Wrigley Field. “To have the lead like that and give it up because of walks and then battle back and take the lead and to have two outs and two strikes to put the game away and end up losing the game, that’s as tough as any of them so far,” said manager Dale Sveum, whose Cubs fell to 4-8.
