Cougars get pounded by LumberKings

In the finale of their season-opening seven-game homestand, the Kane County Cougars dropped a 10-4 decision to the Clinton LumberKings on Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Following a 54-minute rain delay, Clinton (3-4) scored twice in the top of the second against Tayler Scott (0-1). Jabari Henry singled in front of a Taylor Ard walk and both runners scored on a single from Tyler Marlette, and the LumberKings added a pair of runs in the third.

The Cougars (2-5) cut the deficit in the bottom of the fifth when Wes Darvill tripled and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Dan Vogelbach. In the bottom of the sixth, Trey Martin delivered a 2-run double that knocked in Chadd Krist and Bijan Rademacher.

But the Cougars’ Stephen Perakslis allowed 4 runs in the seventh, including a 2-run homer by Guillermo Pimentel. Dario Pizzano doubled home Tim Lopes to put the LumberKings ahead by 6 in the eighth.

The Cougars hit the road today when they visit the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Field. Right-hander Jose Arias (0-0) scheduled to start for the Cougars against lefty Brent Suter (0-0).
