INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police say an officer was dragged about 50 feet when a driver he’d pulled over suddenly sped away as the officer leaned inside the suspect’s car.

Officer Daniel Slightom dropped off the fleeing vehicle but suffered an arm injury in early Tuesday’s incident.

The Indianapolis Star reports Slightom noticed the motorist smelled of alcohol and had what appeared to be a plastic baggie in his mouth after he pulled him over on the city’s west side.

When he asked 40-year-old Brian C. Henderson to get out of the car, Henderson allegedly threw the car into gear and began speeding away, pulling Slightom with him.

Henderson was arrested following a police chase on preliminary charges that include battery, resisting law enforcement, obstruction of justice and criminal recklessness.
