Round Lake Park voters reject police pension tax hike

Round Lake Park officials will have to look for other areas to trim after voters Tuesday defeated a proposed tax hike to pay for police pensions.

With all six precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed the measure that would have raised taxes to increase the amount the village contributes to the police pension fund defeated 449 to 195.

Mayor Jean McCue warned the village would only get “deeper in the hole” if the question was defeated. She said officials would need to hope for development or more retail sales to bring more revenue to the village, but would have to consider cuts if that didn’t happen.
