Madigan shows some real chutzpah

Once again the chutzpah of Speaker Michael Madigan is on display. He states that the downstate and suburban school districts have a “free lunch” in that they contribute little if any to their teachers’ pension while Chicago does for its teachers and also pays state income tax.

Yet for the over 40-plus years he has presided as Speaker over the state’s budget and funding responsibilities, the state has failed to contribute its required annual support of the downstate and suburban pension fund and also has raided the teachers’ pension system of funds to pay for his own special funding projects.

Who has enjoyed the “free lunch,” Mr. Speaker? Now that the bill has come due, whose pockets are you going after? Those educators who have faithfully contributed their required funds year after year. Chutzpah at the max.
