McLaughlin Body Co. announced plans Monday to invest $22 million in a plant outside Anderson. It would be the company's first plant outside of Illinois. Its customers would include Caterpillar Inc.'s new plant in northeast Georgia.

McLaughlin's plans hinge on final approval next week from Anderson County Council.

The company based in Moline,, expects to open in a county industrial park early next year. Hiring should begin this fall and ramp up over several years.

The state's economic development council approved giving McLaughlin $4 million to buy the building, as well as job development credits.

The company makes operator protection systems, including cab enclosures and components for heavy-duty vehicles.
