Six dogs were saved out of the basement of a burning farmhouse in Long Grove after four residents also escaped unharmed, authorities said Saturday.

A fire at an older, two-story farmhouse began about 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of Route 83. It drew crews from multiple departments to extinguish flames that engulfed the front porch and spread through several of the walls, according to a news release from the Long Grove Fire Protection District.

A problem with a wood-burning stove in the house likely caused the fire, which resulted in $75,000 worth of damage, authorities said.

Firefighters opened several walls and the roof to put out hidden fire, using roughly 3,000 gallons of water, and the house was deemed uninhabitable.

Neither the residents of the home, nor their six dogs, nor any of the firefighters responding were injured in the blaze, authorities said.

Crews from the Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Palatine Rural, and Prospect Heights fire departments assisted Long Grove at the scene, while companies from the Countryside, Fox Lake, Lake Forest, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods departments staffed Long Grove's station.

The Long Grove Fire Protection District is continuing its investigation of the fire.
