Abello homers twice and Benet rolls

Stephanie Abello hit a 3-run homer and a 2-run shot her first two at-bats, and No. 1 Benet rolled past Wheaton North 15-0 in their season opener on Wednesday in Lisle.

Marissa Panko went 3-for-4, scored 2 runs and drove in a run for Benet, which hosts Naperville Central today.

Naperville Central 5, Plainfield Central 3:

Lindsey Gonzalez hit a go-ahead 2-run single in the second inning, and Kaitlyn Skarecky and Laura Dierking later added solo homers for the No. 11 Redhawks (3-0) in Naperville. Winning pitcher Keegan Hayes (2-0) struck out five in 3 innings of relief.

Lake Park 3, Elgin 2:

Danielle Jecmen hit a tying homer in the bottom of the sixth, and Dena Guthrie later doubled and scored on a wild pitch as No. 20 Lake Park (6-0, 2-0 Upstate Eight Conference) rallied in Elgin.

Glenbard South 8, West Chicago 1:

Jane Trzaska struck out 13 in 2-hitting host West Chicago, and Ashton Cattenhead went 3-for-4 with a triple, double, 3 runs batted in, 2 runs scored and a stolen base for No. 13 Glenbard South (2-0).

Neuqua Valley 10, Batavia 3:

Jamie O'Brien was 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs, Kelsey Dominguez 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and Jenny Budds 2-for-3 with a double for No. 16 Neuqua (1-1, 1-1 Upstate Eight Conference). Winning pitcher Mac Spittal struck out five.

St. Charles North 7, Waubonsie Valley 5:

Sabrina Rabin went 3-for-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and an RBI as No. 6 St. Charles North (3-0, 2-0 Upstate Eight Conference) edged No. 8 Waubonsie Valley (6-2, 1-1).

Naperville North 6, Oswego 2:

Emily Hillier was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and Kailee Budicin 2-for-4 with a double for the Huskies (1-1).

Willowbrook 2, Wheeling 0:

Darian Pelsor (4-0) fired a 3-hitter, striking out seven, and visiting Willowbrook scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh. In the sixth Olivia Domin tripled and Sam Schmidt doubled her in, and an inning later Delaney Pelsor doubled and Cheyenne Brunig singled her in. Brunig also made a diving catch in the hole to save the potential tying run from scoring in the bottom of the sixth for Willowbrook (4-0).

Wheaton Academy 16, Walther Lutheran 4:

Marissa Gagliano went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI and 4 stolen bases and Sarah McClain 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 4 RBI and 3 steals for the Warriors in their season opener. Gina Graff was 2-for-2 with a triple, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
