Bears release defensive tackle Toeaina

Two weeks ago, Bears officials said they expected to release defensive tackle Matt Toeaina, and Tuesday they made it official.

Toeaina, who started 24 games in five seasons in Chicago, declined to renegotiate his contract to help the Bears stay under the salary cap. By releasing him, the Bears save $1.1 million.

Last season, Toeaina lost his job to Stephen Paea and only played in three games for the Bears. He also was placed on injured reserve last December and underwent arthroscopic surgery.
