About this Article

Cook County Clerk David Orr has filed a legal brief on behalf of legalizing same-sex marriage. The brief, filed in Cook County, opposes a motion to dismiss a lawsuit seeking to overturn Illinois' ban on same-sex marriage. "Over the years, we have fought to narrow the gap between discrimination and equal rights, first with the Cook County domestic partnership registry, next with gender-blind civil unions," Orr said in a statement.
