Wheaton man charged in Glen Ellyn church burglary

A Wheaton man has been charged with burglarizing a church and school near Glen Ellyn, authorities said Thursday.

Jason R. Schultz, 38, of the 700 block of Liberty Avenue, faces one felony count of burglary from a school or place of worship.

DuPage County sheriff's officials said they received a report in mid-November of a burglary that occurred at St Luke's Evangelical Church at 23W080 Butterfield Road in an unincorporated area near Glen Ellyn. In mid-December, two more burglaries were reported to have taken place at St. Luke's, and one at a school.

Authorities said their investigation determined Schultz intentionally damaged property inside the church building. They also said he ate on the premises.

Most of the incidents occurred in the evening or early morning hours, authorities said.
