Sky invites ex-Rutgers forward to WNBA camp

The Chicago Sky has signed 6-foot-2 forward Michelle Campbell to a training camp contract, team officials announced Wednesday.

Campbell, who will be 29 in May, currently plays for Tarsus Bld in the Turkish League.

“I’m looking forward to Michelle bringing her blue collar approach to training camp,” Sky head coach and general manager Pokey Chatman said. “She has always been a physical, tough-minded player that got the job done on the defensive end, and over the past couple of years has done a nice job of developing her offensive game.”

Campbell led the EuroLeague in offensive rebounds (3.7) for the 2012-2013 season playing for Tarsus Bld. She also ranked fifth in field goal percentage (55.9 percent) and fourth in double-doubles (4). In the Turkish League, Campbell is currently averaging 13.8 points per game and 8.2 total rebounds per game.

Campbell is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she was named Most Improved Player in the Big East Conference (2005). Averaging 8.2 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game, she helped advance the squad to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2006.
