Bo knows first pitch; tickets almost gone for opener
If you haven’t procured seats for Monday’s White Sox opening-day game against the Kansas City Royals at U.S. Cellular yet, there is still time.
On Tuesday, however, the Sox announced a “very limited” number of standing room only tickets are left for the 3:10 p.m. game.
Seats are available for the rest of the homestand, April 3-4 against the Royals and April 5-7 against the Seattle Mariners.
On Opening Day, former Sox outfielder and NFL star Bo Jackson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. In 1993, Jackson came back from hip-replacement surgery and homered in his first at-bat with the White Sox.
Jackson went deep again Sept. 27, and his 3-run shot against the Mariners helped the Sox clinch the AL West division.
TV broadcasters Phil, Anthony and Dan Ponce will perform the national anthem Monday.
Chris Sale gets the start for the White Sox on Opening Day, with newcomer James Shields scheduled to start for the Royals. Sale, who allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 4 innings Tuesday in his final spring appearance, was 9-3 with a 2.30 ERA at home last season.
Danks to DL:In a move that comes as no surprise, John Danks landed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday (retroactive to March 22).The left-handed starter is trying to make it back from Aug. 6 shoulder surgery. Danks was lifted from the Cactus League rotation after going 0-2 with a 16.36 ERA in 4 starts.Danks threw 66 pitches Sunday in a minor-league game and allowed 4 home runs. Until Danks is ready, Dylan Axelrod is expected to take the spot in the rotation.#147;He#146;s going to stay back here on extended (spring training), make a couple starts here, and as he continues to feel better and mechanically is in a good spot, he#146;ll head out on a rehab assignment,#148; general manager Rick Hahn told reporters Tuesday.#147;It could be a couple weeks; it could be longer.
