District 214 fees will increase, then freeze

Registration fees in Northwest Suburban High School District 214 will be going up each year for the next few years but will be frozen for the duration of a student's high school career. The proposal approved unanimously by the District 214 school board last night differs from one presented a few weeks ago that would have incrementally raised fees for all students each year over a number of years. 12-year sentence in Batavia rape and domestic attack

A 55-year-old Batavia man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in June 2012 and a domestic attack in 2011, according to prosecutors and court records. Michael L. Jett, of the 200 block of South River Street, must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and serve 85 percent of his sentence, which comes to a little more than 10 years behind bars.
