Warrenville cops make arrest in assault case

By Josh Stockinger

A Warrenville man has been charged with aggravated assault for approaching a woman while wielding a knife last week, police said Friday.

Michael Morrison, 50, of the 29W500 block of Country Ridge Drive, was arrested Thursday after a six-day investigation. He faces misdemeanor charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

The 34-year-old victim fled after being approached by a man armed with a knife about 9:25 p.m. March 15 near her vehicle on the 2S500 block of Route 59, authorities said.

Afterward, police released surveillance photos of the suspect and asked the public for help identifying him. Morrison was charged through "the assistance of local businesses and area residents," according to a news release Friday.

Warrenville Deputy Chief David Schar said Morrison posted a $1,000 bond and was released with an April 25 court date. If convicted of aggravated assault, he would face up to a year in jail.
