South Elgin graduate and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior center Cortney Kumerow and Warhawks head coach Keri Carollo have been named to the D3hoops.com Central Region Team.
Kumerow was a second team selection and Carollo was named Central Region Coach of the Year.
Whitewater finished as DIII national runner-up last weekend.
Kumerow, a two-time first team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, led UW-W in scoring (13.5), rebounding (7.9) and blocked shots (52). She was also second on the team in field goal percentage (. 513) and free throw accuracy (. 846). She scored a team-high 29 points in a game against UW-Superior Feb. 9, also grabbing a team season-high 17 rebounds in that contest. She ended her Warhawk career second all-time in blocked shots (128), fourth in scoring (1,208) and seventh in rebounding (639). She is the second woman, and third basketball player of either gender, at Whitewater to total 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 100 blocked shots in a career.
Carollo directed the Warhawks to the NCAA Division III championship game, the highest finish ever for UW-W, and ended the season ranked second in the D3hoops.com national poll, another school best, with a 26-7 record, the second most victories ever.
The 2012-2013 Warhawks won the WIAC with a 14-2 record, Carollo's third league title in the last six years. The NCAA tourney appearance was the Warhawks' sixth consecutive under Carollo. Carollo is 207-102 in her eleven years at UW-W, with the 200th coming in a 58-49 win against UW-Oshkosh Feb. 13 that also clinched the WIAC title.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc.
