GLENDALE, Ariz. — Alex Rios and Alejandro De Aza have both been competing in the World Baseball Classic.
Now that De Aza’s Dominican Republic team beat Rios and Puerto Rico in the title game Tuesday, both White Sox outfielders are due back in camp Thursday and they are scheduled to play against the Brewers.
Dayan Viciedo was held out of Wednesday’s loss to the Diamondbacks with cramped right quad, so Adam Dunn played left field for the Sox.
“It felt normal,” Dunn said. “I hadn’t taken any flyballs out there all spring. I did it today during batting practice and everything felt fine.”
Dunn made 5 starts in left for the White Sox last season during interleague road games, and he figures to do the same this year at National League stadiums.
But the Sox’ designated hitter/first baseman hasn’t taken a regular shift in the outfield since 2008, so expect the trend to continue.
“I wouldn’t think I would play out there other than interleague and things like that,” Dunn said. “I think it just gives everybody more options. If I don’t go out there and make a complete you know what of myself, it gives Robin (Ventura) a few more options, especially in National League cities.”
Jesse Crain has been dealing with a strained right adductor, an injury he suffered in the White Sox’ third Cactus League game.
Crain said he hopes to be able to pitch in a regular game this weekend. On Wednesday, the right-handed reliever threw 1 inning in a minor-league game against the Dodgers and allowed 1 run on 2 hits while throwing 23 pitches.
“It’s been feeling better,” Crain said. “This isn’t the way I wanted spring training to be, especially with the injuries I dealt with last year. But now that it’s getting toward the end, I’m feeling good enough to get back out there.”
The White Sox announced an expanded menu at U.S. Cellular Field this season.
Among the new additions are Bull’s BBQ, named and created by former Sox slugger Greg Luzinski.
Comiskey Burger offers double or triple cheeseburger topped with “Chitown Pico”, a relish salsa.
Walking Taco is a bag of Fritos served with stadium nacho cheese, chili and a fork.
