Arlington Heights officer in ICU, recovering

An Arlington Heights police officer who crashed his squad car into a pole after suffering a medical event on Tuesday night is in the intensive care unit, but recovering, officials said Wednesday

Around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, a police SUV rolled through an intersection and hit a light pole at Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive in Mount Prospect, according to people who saw the accident.

Capt. Kenneth Galinski, head of the patrol and traffic division, said the officer suffered no long-term effects from the crash because of the slow speed. He said the officer was sore, but in good spirits with support of his family. Galinski said that the officer is still having tests done to figure out what happened.
