Early morning fire damages Naperville house

Daily Herald report

No injuries were reported early Tuesday morning when a fire began in the attic of a house on the 800 block of Raintree Drive in Naperville.

Firefighters said a resident reported smelling smoke at 1:32 a.m. but indicated there was no sign of fire. While the first crews were en route, the resident called back to report flames in the attic.

Firefighters arrived to find light smoke in the second floor attic space and were able to bring the fire under control within about 15 minutes.

All the residents escaped unharmed, but authorities said fire, smoke and water caused more than $35,000 worth of damage to the attic and second floor of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a building inspector was brought to the scene.
