Parents, son fined for party that led to Wisc. crash

WAUKESHA, Wis. — A Waukesha County couple and their teenage son have agreed to pay reduced fines for hosting a drinking party that led to a crash that killed three young people.

Prosecutors agreed to drop some of the 26 citations issued to Scott and Charlene Wetzel, of Pewaukee, and their son, Jason, for supplying alcohol to underage guests last July. District Attorney Brad Schimel says no criminal charges could be filed because the guests were 18.

Three 18-year-olds who had been at the party died after their car slammed into a tree in Delafield. The victims were all students at Arrowhead High School.

Schimel tells the Journal Sentinel that he believes the total fine of $2,700 will be a substantial lesson for the Wetzels. Defense attorney Anthony Cotton says it’s a fair outcome of the case.
