United Airlines is offering quicker access to Transportation Security Agency security processing to their “premier” customers. Now United is expanding this service by offering their non-”premier” customer the same quick security access for a fee of $9.
We all ought to be outraged by this! This practice amounts to providing unequal access to government services. The TSA is a federally funded agency charged with providing travel security for all of us. As such we all should have equal access to the service. If this situation is allowed to stand as a precedent, what’s next? Will United offer us quicker access to the voting booth for $9?
This practice ought to be stopped. Let the “premiers” wait in line like the average air travel user has to do. Otherwise, government service provisions will continue to be prioritized to favor the highest bidder.
