Husak, Skibbe named to interim posts in Buffalo Grove

With the coming retirements of Police Chief Steve Balinski and Public Works Director Greg Boysen, Buffalo Grove Village Manager Dane Bragg has named Steve Husak and Mike Skibbe as interims.

"This is an excellent opportunity to provide internal talent with the chance to step up and take the reins of their departments. Even if this is a temporary assignment, it is a phenomenal learning experience," Bragg said in a news release. "The more opportunities we provide for employees to lead, the better the organization functions overall."

Deputy Police Chief Husak is a 24-year veteran of the department who has held a variety of supervisory, administrative and managerial assignments. He commands the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County, a countywide mutual aid crash investigation team.

"Deputy Chief Husak is a highly regarded professional both inside and outside of Buffalo Grove," Bragg said.

Skibbe has worked for the village since 1998 when he was hired as a part-time engineering aide while attending Buffalo Grove High School. Following college graduation in 2004, he accepted a full-time position as an engineering technician. In 2006, he was promoted to civil engineer. He was recently assigned as secretary of the Lower Des Plaines Watershed Planning Council.

"Mike has championed technological innovation and leading edge work processes within public works," Bragg said.

The village is in the midst of a nationwide search for people to fill both jobs.
