Two men will appear before a judge this morning after being charged in the death of a Zion man Sunday night outside a Round Lake Beach convenience store. Jose M. Garcia, 18, of Mundelein, and Jose Rebollar-Verara, 24, of Round Lake Park, were arrested last night and charged with first-degree murder. Full story.

Metropolis gets funding from Arlington Hts. another year

As long as Metropolis Performing Arts Centre gets through the rest of this fiscal year, the nonprofit will receive more financial help from the village of Arlington Heights next year, the village suggested last night. The village board unanimously recommended approval of the budget for Metropolis, which includes $317,000 in village support for fiscal year 2014, after a lengthy discussion about where the organization has gone wrong in recent years and how to bring in more revenue in the future. Glen Ellyn Dist. 41 approves multiage classrooms

As part of a bigger Think Tank plan approved unanimously last night, starting next year, students in Glen Ellyn Elementary Dist. 41’s fourth and fifth grades will join in multiage classrooms. Dist. 300 considers expanding special education ratio

Community District 300 discussed last night expanding the ratio of students with disabilities as compared to typical students to 40 percent of the total. The state currently says only 30 percent of the students in a mixed-education classroom may have disabilities. The state’s rule may be eliminated. Full story.
