Hanover Park man charged in home invasion attempt

A Hanover Park man tried to force his way into a neighbor’s home and threatened a couple there with a knife, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Nikkokim Aglubat, 21, appeared in DuPage County bond court on a charge of attempted home invasion. He was ordered held on $150,000 bail.

Shortly after 2 p.m. March 5, Aglubat tried to enter the home of a couple living next to him on the 3900 block of Sandpiper Drive, according to prosecutors. Aglubat then threatened to stab both victims with a knife, Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Costello said in court.

Aglubat faces unrelated charges of aggravated assault, battery and property damage in Cook County, where he was on bond at the time of his arrest, according to Costello.

Asked if he wanted a public defender appointed on the new case, Aglubat, who is unemployed, declined.

“No, thank you,” he told a judge. “I’d like to defend myself.”

Aglubat returns to court March 25 and would have to post $15,000 to be released from the DuPage jail. Judge Elizabeth Sexton ordered him to stay away from the neighbors and surrender any weapons to police.
