Endorsements: Breyer, Farwell, Glasgow, Rosenberg for Arlington Heights board

We’ve been making endorsements in local elections for a long time, and rarely have we been as torn as we are in considering this year’s candidates for four seats on the Arlington Heights village board. The field features five excellent candidates — Trustees Norman Breyer, Joseph Farwell, Thomas Glasgow and Bert Rosenberg and architect Jim Tinaglia. It is a tough call. We wish we could endorse all five. The incumbents have served well, faithfully and with a great spirit of collaboration. Each brings something beneficial to village government. Meanwhile, Tinaglia is thoughtful and articulate with perspectives in design and business development that would contribute to village board deliberations. Problem is, whom would Tinaglia replace? Breyer, who provides the institutional memory and an understanding of finance, business and the retirement community? Farwell, perhaps the village’s best expert on the looming pension challenge? Glasgow and his energetic civic involvement and enthusiasm? Rosenberg, with his common sense analytical skills and his work with the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce? Arlington Heights is a well-run, well-managed community, a model suburb. Breyer, Farwell, Glasgow and Rosenberg are big reasons why. We endorse them for re-election.
