It's not even spring yet, but we're already daydreaming about sitting on the patio, gazing at our perfectly manicured backyard, with a couple of burgers on the grill and a nice glass of wine in our hand.

OK, so our yard is not exactly perfect, far from it, actually. If you are in the same boat and your backyard is less than ideal, maybe we can assist.

The Daily Herald wants to help you get your summer on!

Part of that plan includes an outdoor makeover contest. All you have to do is send us a photo of your yard and why you think it deserves a makeover.

Tell us what kind of summer you might have if your yard — backyard, front yard, entryway, whatever — was up to snuff — from entertaining your friends, to hosting your child's graduation party, to just sitting there quietly enjoying the sunshine.

Starting May 5, for five weeks in the Home and Garden section, the Daily Herald will feature makeover suggestions for yards that have been submitted by you. Each week, we will offer prizes to those whose wyards have been selected.

At the end of the contest, a group of industry experts will award a variety of prize packages guaranteed to spruce up your outdoor living space — from patio furniture to outdoor lighting to a pond — to several finalists.

Go to dailyherald.com/contests/getyoursummeron to enter.

In addition, make sure to check out our Food section for our five-week grilling university. Beginning May 8, we'll share advice and tips that will have you cooking outdoors with confidence.

Let's start planning. Summer is almost here.
