There once had been six candidates filed to run for three seats on the Lakemoor village board. Now, the race is down to four. Two of the candidates failed to meet the requirements for filing petitions and thus were removed from the ballot. That's fair enough; it's how our system works. What we find somewhat disconcerting, however, is that after objecting to those petitions and successfully winnowing the field, Trustee Colin McIntyre missed the endorsement interview with our editorial board representative and has so far failed to respond both to the Daily Herald candidate questionnaire and to the one provided by the Northwest Herald. We believe that there is more to getting elected than finding a way to get the opponents removed from the ballot. A candidate also has an obligation to campaign. There is a way Lakemoor voters can reinforce this message. We endorse the remaining three candidates: Trustee Phil Lonigro, clearly the top choice on the ballot; and energetic newcomers Alexis Aguilar and Rick Weaver. They make up with enthusiasm what they may lack in experience.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
