Aurora woman killed after car plunges into Aurora pond

One person was killed and three others injured Sunday night after a car veered off Interstate 88 near Eola Road in Aurora and ended up in a retention pond, state police said.

Police have identified the victim as Emory Sepulveda, 20, of Aurora. An autopsy is scheduled for today, according to the DuPage County coroner’s office.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. The car Sepulveda was driving heading east on I-88 when it left the roadway and drove into a ditch on the right side. The car continued into a detention pond, where it rolled over.

Authorities rescued three passengers from the car. All were taken to area hospitals with injuries police say are not life threatening.

Divers then searched the pond for Sepulveda, whose body was found at about 3 a.m. Sunday, police said. The Eola Road exit ramp was closed for hours as police investigated.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, police said.
