Ind. family upset with probe of toddler’s death
ELKHART, Ind. — Relatives of a northern Indiana toddler who died in 2011 are upset that investigators have closed the case until new leads emerge in the girl’s death.
Elkhart Police Capt. Mike Sigsbee told relatives of 15-month-old Taylor Hartung-Mann on Thursday that investigators have no further leads in the investigation, but will look at any new information that may come up in the future.
Taylor’s paternal grandmother, Rachel Mann, tells The Elkhart Truth she and other relatives are angry and had hoped that charges would be announced in the case.
The toddler died on Dec. 31, 2011, while in the care of her mother’s boyfriend. Relatives say Taylor had several bruises and had broken ribs, but a forensic pathologist who examined her body could not determine a cause of death.
