Candidate, referendum forums in Batavia, Geneva, Sugar Grove

By Susan Sarkauskas

Want to look local political candidates in the eye and hear directly what they have to say about issues?

There are several forums planned for Geneva, Batavia and Sugar Grove candidates.

Blackberry Township will have information meetings about its road tax increase referendum at 7 p.m. March 12 at Rejoice! Lutheran Church, 0N377 N. Mill Creek Drive, Geneva, and 7 p.m. March 14 at the township hall, 43W390 Main St., Elburn.

The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce is having a meet-the-candidates night at 6:30 p.m. March 12 at the Community House, 141 Main St. Candidates from the village, park district, Kaneland school district, Waubonsee Community College and Sugar Grove Township races have been invited. There will be a question-and-answer session with candidates for village president, village trustee and township supervisor. For details, call Shari at (630) 466-7895.

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce is having a forum for alderman candidates at 7:30 p.m. March 13 at the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave.

All candidates will be asked about the city's development approval process, its tax-increment financing districts, what to do about the excess power the city has purchased from the Prairie State plant in which it invested, how to increase the equalized assessed valuation of property in the city, and what they propose to improve the downtown.

The Geneva TaxFACTS group, in conjunction with Geneva Patch, is having "Candidates Forum on Fiscal Responsibility" at 6:45 p.m. March 20 at Williamsburg Elementary School, 1812 Williamsburg Ave.

All candidates for Geneva mayor, city council First Ward and the Geneva school board have been invited.

Questions will be determined by the group and asked by a moderator.
