Warrenville Lions sponsor two needy local seniors

By

Two local senior citizens have been saved from hunger, recently through a donation made, to the Senior Citizen Project, by the Lions Club of Warrenville. The club has assisted these needy seniors by donating $1600 to sponsor them, providing a full year's supply of groceries. The Lions Club of Warrenville, currently led by President Barb Thornbury, has made supporting impoverished, local seniors through Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) program an annual priority, as part of their "commit[ment] to helping those within [their own] community that need assistance."

The donation will provide the needy seniors fresh, 15 varieties of nourishing fruits and vegetables, 7 frozen meats, 6 bags of non-perishable food, and 3 loaves of Pepperidge Farm bread for one year. The 121 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 100 lbs. of groceries, which also include personal care items and paper products (paper towels, facial tissue, and toilet paper.) The seniors also receive a monthly "Secret Pal" gift, gifts at Christmas time, and much needed household items on their "wishlist." The program provides the seniors the opportunity to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, in the face of the financial and health burdens they face. The Lions Club of Warrenville has been sponsoring needy seniors through the project for over a decade.
