Schaumburg man sentenced for soliciting child

By Barbara Vitello

A 77-year-old Schaumburg man, who police say approached a 9-year-old in a park last summer, pleaded guilty Thursday to indecent solicitation of a child, court records show.

In exchange for Paul R. Duke’s guilty plea, a Cook County judge sentenced him to four years in prison, with credit for the 152 days he has spent in custody since his arrest. Police say the defendant offered to pay the child money to perform a sex act. The girl, who immediately reported the incident to an adult family friend, was not touched or harmed, police said.

Duke must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
