The Long Grove Village Hall was the site of an oil painting demonstration by Ann Feldman on the evening of Feb. 13. A professional artist, Ann Feldman specializes in both portraits and impressionistic paintings.

The demonstration was open to the public and was attended by 25 people. Feldman explained her techniques for painting a traditional still life in an impressionistic way. She used a realistic still life as her "model" and showed the audience how to achieve a more impressionistic look by using techniques originally begun by such masters as Monet. She talked about achieving harmonious colors, choosing correct values and using thick paint with flat brushes and palette knives to achieve a more impressionistic, less realistic but interesting and appealing look.

Ann Feldman is a Barrington resident. Her art is available at the Button-Petter Gallery in Saugatuck, Mich., the East End Gallery in Nantucket and online through the Daily Paintworks Gallery. She teaches at Mainstreet Art.

The demo was very well received by the audience. Over the two hour session, many questions about brush technique, style, color usage and materials were answered. The attendees saw the new painting evolve from a sketch to a fully rendered painting. Many appreciative comments were voiced at the conclusion of the session. The event coordinator was Barbara English.
