Naperville man again unfit for trial in mom's stabbing
For the second time, a Naperville man accused of attacking his mother with a butcher knife has been found mentally unfit for trial.
DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell made the finding Thursday based on recent psychological reports for Alexander Georg.
Georg, 29, has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was deemed unfit in December 2011. He received treatment at a downstate mental health facility and was restored to fitness last fall — but his health deteriorated when he returned to jail and refused his medication, according to a Feb. 14 evaluation.
Creswell said the report indicates there's still a “substantial probability” Georg could be restored to fitness within a year. As a result of her finding, he will again be moved to a secure state facility, where doctors will evaluate him and develop a treatment plan.
Georg faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery in the August 2011 stabbing of his then-52-year-old mother. He had just been released from psychiatric care when he chased the victim into the street in front of their home on Spring Garden Circle in Naperville and repeatedly stabbed her in the chest and neck, authorities said.
The attack happened in broad daylight — just moments after Georg's mother offered him a sandwich, according to prosecutors.
Georg is being held without bail. The case is due back in court March 29.
