Firefighters said the fire was confined to the basement but caused about $500,000 worth of damage, with extensive smoke damage throughout the house, rendering it uninhabitable.

The homeowners, who were not home at the time of the fire but returned home and found the blaze, were forced to take a room at a hotel.

Firefighters said investigators are looking into the cause.

No one, including firefighters, was injured.

The fire was under control in 10 minutes, firefighters said. Twelve departments were on the scene.
