A state legislator's proposal to once again merge the DuPage County Forest Preserve District with the DuPage County Board is drawing fire from forest preserve officials.

The biggest selling point of breaking the DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission away from the county board more than a decade ago was to help prevent conflicts of interest. But now a state lawmaker is proposing legislation to undue the historic split. Before the split, "we were finding roads run though our forest preserves," one commissioner said. Control over the district’s significant cash reserves also are stake.
