Northlight Theatre announces partial season

John Mahoney returns to Northlight Theatre as part of its 2013-14 season, the Skokie theater announced Monday.

Artistic director BJ Jones revealed three of five titles comprising Northlight’s season-long examination of intergenerational relationships. The season begins on Sept. 14 with a production of Amy Herzog’s “4,000 Miles” about the relationship between a directionless 21-year-old and his elderly grandmother.

Mahoney, last seen at Northlight in its 2011 world premiere of the Jeff Award-winning “The Outgoing Tide,” will co-star in the world premiere of Irish playwright Christian O’Reilly’s “Chapatti,” which begins performances March 7, 2014. About the need for companionship, “Chapatti” centers on dog-lover Dan, owner of the titular pooch, and Betty, a pleasant woman with 19 cats, with whom he experiences an unexpected spark.

A revival of Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers” begins performances May 2, 2014. It’s about a pair of brothers spending the summer of 1942 with their cranky grandmother, good-hearted aunt and small-time gangster uncle.

Two additional titles will be announced soon. For more information, see northlighttheatre.org or call (847) 673-6300.
