Nashville upsets St. Thomas More for Class 2A crown

Erica Brown scored 14 points Saturday night to lead Nashville to its first girls basketball state championship, a 42-29 upset of top-ranked St. Thomas More of Champaign in the Class 2A title game at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Shawn Rennegarbe added 11 points and 7 rebounds for Nashville (33-2), which opened up a 12-4 lead after one quarter and led 21-12 at halftime before cruising in the second half.

Tori McCoy had 9 points and 8 rebounds and Lexi Wallen scored 8 points for St. Thomas More (32-3).

El Paso-Gridley 55, Walther Lutheran 46: Codee Schlipf scored 18 points and had 6 rebounds to lead El Paso-Gridley (31-2) to third place in Class 2A. Rebekah Ehresman added 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Isimeme Edeko had 12 points and 18 rebounds for Walther Lutheran (26-9) and Dana Turner added 11 points.
